Function of the Finance Department of Longford Town Council
The main function of the Finance Department of Longford Town Council is to:
Manage the financial affairs of the Council
Ensure that adequate internal controls are in operation to safeguard the assets of the organisation, and ensure, as far as possible, the accuracy and reliability of the accounting records.
The Public Bodies Orders 1946 to 1993 govern the keeping of accounts and records in Local Authorities. The basic Order of 1946 has been amended on numerous occasions to take account of changes in local government law affecting finance and structure.
Delivery of Service:
The Senior Staff Officer and staff of the Finance Department deliver the following services to the public:
Payment of Wages & Salaries to staff
Payment for Goods & Services ( Creditors Payments)
Payment of Pensions to former staff of Longford Town Council and their spouses and children where applicable
Preparation of the Annual Budget
Preparation of Annual Financial Statement
Preparation for Audit of Accounts
Control of Insurances
